[Background] MAJOR SPOILERS ALERT. TURN BACK NOW, CHILDREN

It all began on an ordinary night in Manhattan in some cliquey nightclub named Pandemonium. Simon, not being one for social gatherings like clubs, had consequently been dragged that evening by the ever-charming and beautiful Clary, his best friend of ten years. While the two are there, the nightclub lives up to its name completely.

Chaos arises when Clary spots a peculiar blue-haired boy amongst the crowd. Her attention remains on him, more than likely due to his attractive nature. Of course, when the boy wanders off into the crowd, following after an equally attractive, tall woman, Clary temporarily forgets about him and turns her attention back to her socially awkward best friend. But not for long, because when she glances back, the pair is being followed by two boys, a knife in one of their hands. Flustered, confused, and worried, Clary tries to alert Simon to what’s going on, but when she points to the general direction of where the group is disappearing off to, Simon claims he can’t see anything at all. Frustrated, Clary hurries off, playing hero.

Long story short, when Clary enters the fray, she witnesses something unexplainable. The blue-haired boy is in fact a demon, and the attractive young woman from before, and the two boys, are about to slaughter said demon ruthlessly. Clary, confused beyond belief, tries to protect the boy, but when she realizes that he’s clearly not human, she is unable to concoct a logical ‘next move’. One of the boys proceeds to kill off the ‘demon’, whose body shortly after disappears into the nothingness of the storage room.

Clary has no idea what’s happening, and tries to escape. After all, a whip, a knife, and a body disappearing into thin air aren’t really that calming of sights. Especially when said ‘murderers’ are demanding why you can see them.

The next day, Clary’s mom informs her that they are moving for the rest of the summer somewhere remote. Clary, clearly upset by her mother’s actions, storms off with Simon, unable to cope with this sudden news. Simon, who had been planning on practicing with his band ( who never can really decide on a name, and aren’t really that good at all and just call it a band to get girls), is confused and uncertain as to what to do. He attempts to calm Clary down and decides to take her out for something to eat.

The two talk over snacks and Clary receives a frantic call from her mother, telling her not to return home. Clary ends up seeing Jace once more and runs off. Despite warnings, Clary returns home and disappears off the face of the earth for awhile. Simon can’t reach her on her phone, her apartment is destroyed, and he’s worried beyond belief.

Throughout the course of the novel, Simon is constantly told tidbits of information. Clary clearly wants her best friend by her side, but the Shadowhunters (Isabella, Alec, and Jace) don’t particularly enjoy the ‘mundane’s’ presence. In fact, he’s a nuisance. He’s useless, normal, and can’t use ‘runes’ (which aren’t magic, so don’t ever say that, especially to Jace).

Simon remains determined to stay by Clary’s side through the chaos, and even shows up at her Uncle Luke’s house when he can’t reach her. He stumbles into Jace and Clary there, and soon begins to demonstrate signs of jealousy. The chemistry between Jace and Clary is undeniable, and although Simon doesn’t outright show it, Jace picks up on it. Simon cares about Clary far more than he ought to. In fact, he’s in love with her. It doesn’t matter to him that he’s suddenly thrust into a confusing world of ‘Downworlders’ or a ‘real-life video-game’. No, what matters is Clary’s safety and he finds Jace a nuisance for so easily ripping Clary away from him.

But he stays loyal, refusing to give up just yet. So what if the love of his life and best friend is suddenly attracted to someone she just met? He could be dangerous! So therefore, Simon remains, even though he’s not really that helpful.

Still, Simon tries to divert Clary’s attention from the attractive Shadowhunter by trying to make her jealous with Isabella. Of course, she’s what every girl wishes to be, and Clary is obviously envious of her, but she fails to realize that Simon is trying to make her jealous. So his attempt at using this new found acquaintance as a way to acquire Clary’s heart falls through.

Somewhere along the way, Clary, Jace, and the others discover that there’s a block on Clary’s memories. Without these memories, they can’t figure out where Clary’s mother is, what Valentine is plotting, and how to move forward. Clary is taken to the Silent Brothers. Brother Jeremiah attempts to tap into Clary’s mind, but the block remains. However, one name sticks out: Magnus Bane.

As expected, Simon joins the group in their adventure to visit this mysterious Magnus Bane, who happens to be the High Warlock of New York. At the party, mingling with Downworlders, pixies, and the like, Simon tries to make Clary jealous, again. He dances with Isebella, and when he sees that his attempts are in vain, he ends up accidentally drinking a faerie concoction. Unexpectedly, he is turned into a rat.

If things couldn’t possibly get worse, Simon is taken by a vampire, who mistakes him for one of his own. When Clary learns of this, she demands that Jace go with her to track them down. Jace brings them to Hotel Dumort, where the vampires reside. Long story short, there’s a brawl between werewolves and vampires, Clary saves Simon, and Jace, Simon, and Clary ride off into the night on a crazy vampire motorcycle.

As the story progresses, Simon continues to try and win Clary’s heart over. At one point, he saves the group when they go to visit Madam Dorothea about the Mortal Cup. When Simon shows up, the group is already being attacked by a Greater Demon. With a strike of sheer luck (and a summer camp of practice), Simon shoots the skylight of the room with a bow and arrow, reducing the demon to an inert state. They flee, and Simon, for once, is a hero.

But it’s all not sunshine and rainbows for Simon. No, he at one point finds Clary and Jace kissing in the hallway, which sends him off on a tangent. When Clary demands to know why he got so upset, he confesses that he loves her, and that his mother had warned him that she’d one day break his heart.

The story goes on, Clary gets into more mishaps with her father and newly discovered brother Jace ( who ironically still remains an obstacle for Simon in his quest for Clary’s love), and Simon continues being the mundane that he is.

Somewhere along the line, Simon and Clary end up dating. They share a few intimate moments, remain as close as possible, and continue their quest to awaken Clary’s mother and stop Valentine’s evil plans.

But there’s just one problem.

When Simon was at Hotel Dumort, still in rat-form, he had bitten the leg of a vampire. This temporarily gave him the symptoms of being ‘a vampire’. After returning from the Court of the faeries, and learning that Clary desires to kiss Jace (who she does, rather passionately, even though she and Simon are technically dating), he storms off. Simon somehow ends up at Hotel Dumort, demanding to know if he’s really turning into one of them. Because really, the aspect of being a vampire does not appeal to him whatsoever.

But that really wasn’t a smart move, because a mortal showing up in a hotel of vampires is a bad move all together. Simon ends up drained off blood, and is delivered by Raphael to the Institute’s doorsteps. Clary is horrified and cries out to Simon, declares her ‘love’ for him, and watches him ‘die’ in the other vampire’s arms after learning the truth.

Simon had been suffering with the knowledge that he’s possibly a bloodsucker all by himself. Mostly just because Clary has so much else to worry about that he didn’t wish to burden her with anymore. After all, she seemed so interested in Jace.

Regardless, even though Simon isn’t ‘dead’, he’s still on the verge of death, and when he awakens, he’ll be a full-fledged vampire, fangs and all. And that’s where he’ll awaken from.

[Personality]
Simon is your typical boy next door. He’s sweet, kind, gentle, and a bit nerdy. Scratch that: really nerdy. He plays Dungeons and Dragons, has his own band (which really isn’t that good at all and can never keep a Band Name longer than a day), and tends to spout out random, obscure references to games and movies all the time. Deep down though, he’s a great guy.

Simon is all-around kind, despite his unusual sense of sarcasm and humor. He tends to speak before he thinks, and doesn’t really have a filter when it comes to social situations. He’s a bit awkward around other people, and oblivious to many social cues. But that doesn’t mean he’s any less of a person. He’s stubbornly loyal, funny, and determined.

Although he’s relatively attractive, hidden behind glasses and a ‘nerdy demeanor’, Simon has never really been lucky in the girlfriend department. In fact, the few girlfriends he has had has been on account of his ‘band’, and he claims they were practice. Practice for what? For when he finally got the chance to date Clary, his best friend. The one girl who means the most to him and he can imagine spending eternity with. The girl who he loves.

But despite his undying love for Clary, he remains a loyal friend through and through. He’s a shoulder to lean on and a support for her. He’s ready to get up in the middle of the night to play Knight and save her whenever she needs saving. He’s unshakably devoted and the type of friend a person would die for. In addition, he’s always there to try and brighten a situation with a laugh or too, and tries to see the bright side of things. After all, what other guy can relate finding out about Shadowhunters and Downworlders to Dungeons and Dragons?

Still, he doesn’t seem to get along with people who try to take away the most important thing in his life. Oh, and he doesn’t like being talked down to, either. He knows he isn’t all that great, but that doesn’t mean he’s deserving of ridicule. Needless to say, Alec and Jace aren’t on his list of favorite people. Especially Jace. Always Jace.

[Specialties/Abilities] He's a vampire now, so I suppose that counts for something, doesn't it? He's had no formal training, and all he really knows how to use is a bow and arrow from Summer Camp. But since his transformation, he has better eye-sight and reflexes (though he still opts to wear his glasses, if not out of habit).

[Affection] Simon doesn't really seem to be bothered by that much. But his heart really does belong to someone already.

[Fighting] ...That'd actually be a lot of fun ♥

[Other Permissions] If his mind were to be read, the information that would stick out would be: his transformation into a vampire, his undying, ten-year love for Clary, and his jealousy over Jace.

[Other Facts] Even though he's a vampire, he's previously been a vegetarian for seven years, flinches at the sight of needles, and loves to quote random Games or Movies, making obscure references left and right.
